Administration

Audie Rubin, Executive Director

Executive Director Audie Rubin leads Provost Academy Colorado not only with his years of experience in education as both an administrator and teacher; but also with his background of leadership and vision as a pioneer in the use of online education technology to open the classroom to the world and accelerate learning for Colorado students.

As a leading advocate and pioneer of online education in Colorado, Rubin brings a valuable knowledge and experience with innovation to his position. As Director of Student Online Learning for the Jeffco Public Schools, he developed full time online programs and partnered with district high schools to implement hybrid learning opportunities. During his tenure, Rubin increased the number of students learning online throughout the district from 150 to over 3,000 and the number of online teachers from 20 to over 200 in 18 months. As a principal with Colorado Virtual Academy, Rubin designed and successfully launched the academy's online high school.

In addition to his work in schools, Rubin is advancing online opportunities for Colorado students as a member of the Colorado Department of Education Committee for Online Learning. Outside of the field of education, Rubin has partnered with Sun Microsystems and Microsoft to develop educational initiatives in the United States as well as in Japan and Australia. He received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Colorado University-Denver, and his undergraduate degree from San Jose State University.

Ian Jones, Director of Instruction
Ian Jones is the Director of Instruction for Provost Academy Colorado. He began his career in education as a middle school Social Studies teacher on the coast of North Carolina. In recent years, Jones has served as an instructional designer and technologist for school districts in both North Carolina and Colorado. His work has centered primarily around professional development, instructional systems design, teacher/administrator support, and infusing technology into brick & mortar classrooms. Jones has designed and helped implement a number of federal, state and local grants, served on district leadership teams, supervised district instructional technology and media programs, and presented ideas and projects to numerous state and local groups. He earned his B.A. in Education, Theater Arts, and Social Studies and an M.S. in Instructional Technology through the University of North Carolina system. Currently, he lives with his wife, two sons (ages 4 and 1), and two dogs, desperately trying to live by a quote from the 1980's classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off, "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Student Services

Denell Camacho, School Secretary

Mrs. Camacho was born in Raton, New Mexico just over the Colorado line. This has been confusing for her, as her parents resided in Trinidad, Colorado at the time of her birth.  She wants to claim she is a Colorado native, but the birth certificate proves otherwise.

In her free time (what's that?), Denell  tries to make as much family time as possible with two grown children.  Not quite an empty nest, but everyone is going in a different direction at once.  In the winter you might find her family with a few of their friends, plus the four cats watching a movie.  Summer time brings water play.  She loves to go boating and try out different lakes.  She visits Chatfield Lake often, since it's only 20 minutes from her home.  On a longer weekend or holiday she might go to Granby and Grand Lake, or her new favorite, Horsetooth Reservoir.

High School was OK for Mrs. Camacho.  She never changed schools, same classmates all through 12 grades.  She would have liked a more flexible learning environment that can be found in online learning, but nothing existed like that back then.  Mrs. Camacho's daughter did some online flexible learning, and it was very useful with her heavy gymnastics training schedule.

Mrs. Camacho worked in a traditional middle school for nine years so she is new to online learning.  During those nine years, she saw many students who would benefit from an online school for many reasons.  She looks forward to the challenges of learning new things, the possibilities are endless;  she loves success stories and sees a whole bunch happening here at Provost Academy Colorado.

"Try to be a step ahead not a step behind", advises Mrs. Camacho. "Keep a nice routine going to accommodate the variety of things you want to fit into your daily schedule. Don't put off today what you think you can do tomorrow, something always comes up. "

Beth Gisi, Math Instructor

Beth Gisi is a Colorado native who grew up in Arvada.  She has 6 years of experience teaching mathematics and science in middle & high school as well as working as an academic advisor. Her work experience includes a charter school in Brighton, a public school in Denver and a Colorado online school. This is her second year as a virtual teacher and she loves that she gets to know her students better and has more time to work one on one than if she were at a brick and mortar school. She is married with one son who just started kindergarten this year. Her family has lived in various parts of the metro area but returned to downtown Denver last year. They now live in the museum district where they get to enjoy the fabulous view of downtown every evening and the ability to walk to the art museum, library, LoDo, or the 16th St. Mall.

Patty Martin, English Teacher
Patty Martin grew up in lovely Boulder, CO and attended school at Metropolitan College and Regis University with degrees in literature and writing. Her teaching experience includes four years at Sheridan Middle School and she is in her ninth year of teaching online. The element that she loves most about the education field is that learning is one of the greatest ways that anyone can improve themselves. Just by learning something new, people become more competent and happier.
Chrissie Nehrenberg, English Teacher
Chrissie was born and raised in Alabama (yee haw!). She went to college in Indiana, and then traveled around a bunch and landed in North Carolina for graduate school (go Tarheels!). She and her family moved out to the Western Slope of Colorado in October 2009 after falling in love with this state while on vacation. She loves riding her mountain and road bikes and running on trails - but, since having two little kids, spends more time chasing them around the yard than out on the trails these days!
Chrissie fell in love with English Literature (and the places it can take you in your mind) while in college, and wanted to pass that love on to students, which is why she became a teacher. This is her tenth year as an English teacher, and she really loves the flexibility that teaching online allows her especially working at a time in the day when you can be most productive. Chrissie really thinks the future of education is some sort of blended learning (some in a brick-and-mortar building and some online).   She'd love to hear your thoughts about your online experience so far. Send her a message!
Lara Tabola, Math Teacher
Mrs. Tabola lives in Castle Rock with her husband and two sons. She also has a 25 year-old step-daughter who teaches at the high school in her neighborhood and an 18 year-old step-daughter who just left for college on a full ride softball scholarship. Mrs. Tabola is a Colorado native. She went to Cornell University, majoring in Math and Computer Science. After graduating, she traveled for a year and then moved back to Colorado to work on her graduate degree and get her teaching license. Mrs. Tabola taught in Douglas County for six years before having kids. Now, teaching online allows her the flexibility to be home with her boys while continuing to do what she love to do professionally. She also loves to do things outdoors (in the winter you will often hear her talk about being in Steamboat to ski!!), She loves to scrapbook and spends a LOT of time trying to keep up with all the activities of her kids.
Jennifer Wiebesiek, Social Studies Teacher
Jennifer Wiebesiek has been in education most all of her adult life working for 5 years at Mt. Evans Outdoor lab school during college as a PERA/Intern. It was at the lab school that she realized that she was destined for to become a teacher after mentoring and training hundreds of high school leaders to teach and lead. She received her teaching license in spring 2006 and began her teaching career as a Government and US History teacher at Golden High School. After a year of teaching in brick and mortar her family was relocated to Weld county and she struggled with finding another teaching position that was exciting and challenging until she found online schools. She hasn't looked back to brick and mortar since 2007 teaching at CDELA for 3 years where she was both an academic advisor and social studies teacher. While at CDELA she was also able to be part of several committees such as RTI/Graduation and coordinate/facilitate many exciting learning experiences including: Outdoor lab education trips 3 years running for grades 4-12th and a trip to Washington D.C.. In Fall of 2007, it became clear to her that being an effective educator means being able to meet the reading and language needs of all of her students. Thus, she began a Master degree program at the University of Texas Arlington with emphasis on Reading/ESL learning. She will complete her program in Fall of 2012. She looks forward to teaching at her new home at Provost Academy and is hoping to bring her expertise in curriculum planning, parent/student communication and support to this new group of bright learners.
